Future Stationary?

These are some collages I did using some left over pieces from a childrens book I am currently working on. I am either going to use the actual collages for stationary or just get ideas from them. For example, the one with "BOOM" on it gave me the idea to make a pop up card that was a bomb and when you opened it up it says BOOM!. Another idea was to make the envelope the actual card. By making the envolope a bomb and you have to open up the entire envolpe saids "BOOM" inside of it with whatever bad news you have.

For this fallen skier I would like him to be placed in envelope that had an avalanche on it with a few chalets buried in the snow. I was also thinking it would make a cute note paper or large post-its that people put on their refrigerators.

I am not really sure what I would like to do with this little guy. I was thinking about making more strange similar characters with small heads and huge hats or maybe the opposite. A whole family of this little people with big hats and small bodies and small hats and huge bodies. I am not sure though.

Strange, quirky designs I did for the first letters of three chapters in Orlando by Virginia Woolf. The man has an H for a beard, the woman in the middle has a W for her breasts, and the last woman has a T for her nose and eye brows.

So I have volunteered to design the insides of my church's, The Light, bulletin for every Sunday till the end of the year. This is the first one I quickly threw together. Its very simple but I like it. I am hoping to play a lot more for the next one!

Assigned to me while I was studying at Willem de kooning Academie in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The assignment was to come up with an animation about anything, do whatever you want, just show 5-7 illustrations of the story board. I was getting very bored at this point at that school and decided to do some cut paper collages whether the teacher liked it or not. To my relief he did. Anyway here they are. Not exactly my favorite series of collages but here are the beginning collages.

DVD cover

This is the final of one of my first assignments here in Rotterdam. We had to design a DVD cover for this movie which was basically this film of a Rue Goldberg like machine that was in this large warehouse and was created by two Swiss artists, Peter Fischili and David Weiss. It felt like this long neverending line of action and reaction with different materials such as gasoline, soap, tires, wood, all sorts of things. I was thinking about changing the title back to the German title. Im not sure yet.

Dutch Letters

The first eight weeks that I will be studying at WdKA I am allowed to take a few workshops and one of them is with the Dutch Letter Press. Its the old fashioned way of printing type. It's fabulous because I can do pretty much whatever I want.
Above are the only two good ones that came out of my first series of prints. Originally I wanted them all to be like the bottom one, which the NO was done by doing what is called blind printing but for some reason the first NO started move towards the left. My teacher and I could not figure it out so we decided to stamp the NO with some white paint. I am really proud of both of them and I am excited to work more with this way of printing.

The presentation only needs to be about 5 minutes long, so I thought this would be quick and easy. The link to this website and my email will be stamped on the back. I decided to do series because mine were so small and did not take me that long to do. The pictures are of horrible quality, but that's ok. Im probably going to do a series of paintings of self portraits like this.

Above is a figure drawing I did of my friend Gabriella sleeping. I did it from a picture I took of her one night when I found her sleeping in her room with her lights on and work all around her. It was fun to take the picture but then when I did the drawing it felt completely different.

Stiff Illustrations

I had to choose a book, read it, and illustrate parts of it. I chose Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. These are only four of the six I did. The other two were not as good as I wanted them to be, but I still had fun doing them.

This was for an assignment where we had to illustrate something on a menu that was given to us, it was meant to be the cover the menu. I want to do another one for this assignment cause I dont feel it enough umph to be on the cover. Still brainstorming. Any thoughts?

This was my second attempt at this composition. It was for an assignment that was about illustrating violence, so I chose blood bath. I had a lot of fun cutting out the chandelier.

I am still working on my cut paper skills. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll post all of what I have done in the past year.
